What to expect at your first visit

  1. Registration and a short history — your complaint, diabetes or blood pressure, medicines, and previous eye treatment. Bring your glasses and any old reports.
  2. Vision and glasses check, then eye pressure measurement with numbing drops.
  3. Dilating drops, which take 20 to 30 minutes to work, so that Dr Nalini can examine the retina fully. Your vision will be blurry for a few hours afterwards.
  4. Examination by Dr Nalini of the front and back of the eye, with scans if needed.
  5. A plain explanation of what was found, in simple words, and a written plan — whether that is new glasses, drops, a review date, an injection, or surgery.

Plan for one to two hours. If surgery is advised, it is a daycare procedure in almost all cases — you go home the same day — and the date, preparation and cost estimate are explained before you leave.
